When we all went to university to study, whether it be in the traditional tech field or others, none of us probably met somebody in our chosen field. Generally speaking, Commerce students never engaged with accountants, Politics students never rubbed shoulders with policy people and Tech students never engaged in a scrum. On the employers side, they never really got much input into the types of grads they wanted. They couldn't engage with students until the educational conveyor belt had ceased moving and employers got what they were given. The Wellington ICT Graduate School is different in that regard. Karl Stafford, Engagement Manager for the WICTGS, will talk about how industry can get involved during the whole piece. Karl will talk to having industry dictate the curriculum, meet and engage with the students and to be involved right the way through to graduation. The future of education is not to continually churn out graduates, but to create industry ready graduates.
