The Interface event is an exciting and dynamic forum where scientists, academics and researchers from the MacDiarmid Institute and the Dodd Walls Centre tackle real world problems being faced by New Zealand companies undertaking leading technology development. It will deliver: methods to solve complex industrial problems; links with scientists from top NZ universities and Research Institutes; access to advanced scientific facilities and environments; and fresh input of new ideas to existing progressive corporates through to start-up ventures from the technology incubator, Astrolab.
Teams will work on ‘proof of concept’ over 10 weeks and present their results to the companies concerned. There is a showcase event at the ASB Cube during Techweek where we can celebrate the efforts of the participants. Practical examples of potential assistance that has been provided in other company interactions include: surface modification of materials to enhance their properties or performance; machining of small holes; monitoring of sample turbidity to assess growth of microorganisms; monitoring of very thin surface films; monitoring of subsoil conditions for agriculture; monitoring of atmospheric gas composition for safety or environmental protection; development of nanoparticles to modify the optical and the biological properties of commonly used materials.
