Techweek’17 is just four weeks away and the programme is HUGE. We’ve got 9 days packed with opportunities to discover incredible tech and innovation advances happening right now in New Zealand, and to uncover their potential to change the world – which naturally includes a chance to get your hands on some cool tech, too!
Techweek is here to amplify NZ ideas that are good for the world, and part of that is helping bright New Zealand minds to scale the impact of their ideas globally. Unsurprisingly, one of the streams of content in this year’s programme is scaling impact, and there are so many awesome events to discover within it.
At Future Realities, a headline event running from 10-13 May in Auckland and Wellington, you’ll be able to see celebrated science fiction author and futurist Neal Stephenson speak, alongside leaders in the fields of mixed reality and the internet of things (IoT). They’re calling it ‘the least boring Tech conference you could possibly attend,’ and we can see why. Earlybird tickets are available here >>.
Once again, Techweek coincides with the 2017 NZ Hi-Tech Awards, and this year’s incredible list of finalists includes a whole range of innovative and world-leading NZ companies, including peer-to-peer lending marketplace, Harmoney, and ARDA, an AI coaching platform for exercise, among many more. You can still get tickets to the Gala Dinner on 12 May.
In Wellington on 11 May, KEA are holding a panel discussion as part of the Kea Inspire series, with this iteration zeroing in on the future of cities. A line-up of successful speakers will lead the charge, delving into ways New Zealand can attract the world’s best talent and encourage innovators, creators and investors from both New Zealand and abroad, to live and work here. In a quiet corner of Auckland’s Parnell, legendary innovation ‘corridor’, Level Two, will open to the public for the first time, offering an exciting chance to meet the next generation of world-changing innovators currently working in the space. In another first, the MaD for the Future conference will bring together delegates from the manufacturing industry, government and Crown Research insititutes to connect and collaborate on world-changing innovations in manufacturing and design.
Techweek has proven a great inspiration for special editions of regular, well-loved events, including Hardware Meetup Auckland, who are running an Aerospace event featuring speakers from RocketLab and Singularity University. Similarly, Startup Grind Auckland will be featuring local innovators, and chapter directors from Startup Grind around the world, all offering insights into their journeys of international expansion.
The Techweek’17 programme also aims to clarify the complex relationships between founders and investors with an exciting selection of events about investment and expansion into overseas markets. NZTE’s NZ8 Basecamp will reveal a clear pathway to scale in the US market, Kea’s Kiwi Tech | Going Global will uncover the mysteries of the UK and European marketplace, and a special (and nearly sold out) event by MOVAC will demystify the Series A & B investment decision.
